Last night we DJ'd a wedding reception in Highland MI for Michael and Megan and it was a spectacular setting for a party! Lots of land with horses, bluebirds and a beautiful breeze.

Of course the people make the party, and once again for this wedding reception everyone was so nice and we had the best time too!

An Update Today and a GREAT Day to You!

Since Feb. 1, 2010 Lori Roberts (handEchic) and I have been remodeling my kitchen. This started out as a painting job.........and not in a million years, did I ever dream I'd have a kitchen that looked like this. Pictures are coming soon!

This has been so much fun.....a lot of hard work.........I've learned many new words and products along the way.......and so many laughs!

My new name is Lil Shayke n Bayke........"cause I helped".......(yes, y'all remember the Shake and Bake commercial right?)..........c'mon.......I'm not that old! :)

Lori was over yesterday to lay the back splash for 12 hours non-stop.....she told me to just let er at it! She is amazing.......her skill lever, knowledge, and passion are amazing to watch and wonderful to experience.

I'm leaving Wed. March 18 to visit my mom in Ft. Lauderdale By the Sea.....and we're hoping to finish it before I go. In my opinion, it will be a miracle if we do..........but I'm definately up for trying to reach the goal.

Been DJing weddings and birthday celebrations and enjoying life with Brett and the 5 dogs.

Am thinking about taking a 30 day horse back riding trip to Mongolia in July. I haven't booked any DJ jobs, so will most likely do it.................life is short........better do it now!

We want to take the dogs to Tennessesee and stay in the mountains, but are having a hard time finding a cottage who wants us with our 5 little doggies. I get no one wants to hear dogs bark......or step in doggy doo.........but we are responsible dog owners......and that's what makes the difference. We've never traveled with the dogs before, and now that we're not tied down to our careers, can go away for longer than 10 days..... but we can't leave the "kids" for longer than that. It's just not right ya know?

If you are reading this........I hope and pray you are healthy and happy.

I still don't know what to do with my "career"..........I'm hoping something will just "pop up" that seems interesting. I would love to help save endangered animals (on land and sea) and do something to make a difference in our world and protect them from man.

Brett, I've probably told you this before.... I married him because he was the best DJ assistant I ever found!

Hey trust me, I went through so many assistants......and ended up DJing by myself for most of my career in this business. I loaded and unloaded and did all the set up and everything all by myself. If I can't have the best, I'll just do it myself.

Brett did not want to do this business AT ALL......but with equipment getting heavier and harder for me to put the speakers on stands and pick up the 100 lb bass....he finally gave in and my DJ Service has been the best it's ever been thanks to him! He has an amazing ear.....and fine tunes every song with such precision....I'm just so blessed because he so great at this and we laugh (a lot!) and have so much fun while at the same time creating a night of magic for our brides and grooms who always become friends!

Frankie and Holly's friends and family were a totally amazing group of indiviuals. We will be attending the video viewing party when they get back from Hawaii! ( We were hoping to get an invite to the honeymoon ) lol!

His first book, "The Four Agreements" literally saved me from the horrible place I'd been living in since my radio show on WYCD was eliminated. It got me right back on track so fast!

Neale Donald Walsch, who's been on the NY Times Best Sellers list 7 times did an amazing interview with us today. His first book "Conversations With God" has sold more than 7.5 million copies.

His latest book is so right on target for the times we are living in.......

Remember, I'd been out of work since December 8, 2009 and just got hired back. I know how lost you can feel when you lose your job.....you can't really even begin to know what it feels like until you are there. I had no idea how bad it would get for me!

Even now that I'm working again, this hour interview helped me so much. It's all about change and how you deal with it! It's really really powerful and will get you to shift the way you are viewing your current situation of hopelessness. Trust me, I know how that feels!

Had my first show last night at GoComedy in Ferndale. It was so much fun!

This weekend, Jyl Forsyth's DJ Service is DJing Betzi and Jonathon's wedding in an old farmhouse in Howell that they've spent hours upon hours renovating for their wedding and wedding reception which we all can't believe is finally here!! We've been waiting for this BIG DAY for over 2 years!!

I'm providing the wedding ceremony music along with the nights big time entertainment. It's not a country theme.......even though it's in a charming old farmhouse. Terry Phillips from 99.5 WYCD has done an amazing job for my website. He is so busy doing 3 radio stations imaging, yet made the time to create this website for me!
I am so grateful to have a friend like Terry. In fact, so many wonderful friends from my 99.5 days. I worked with the greatest group of people and will forever be thankful for them in my life.

I have a strong feeling we will one day be working together again. It's a feeling.........but that's how things materialize right? By believing ....seeing.........and living within our own positive energy.

That then radiates out into the world.........and that in it's own way, makes the world a
better place for all.

It's the "US" factor for me. I always feel a connection with you my fellow travelers.

When my show was eliminated on 99.5 right before Christmas (just the nature of the beast in many businesses..........not just radio) Judith couldn't track me down anywhere since the radio station can't give out my number of course...........so thank God for facebook...........it's really helped a lot of us re-connect!

I miss so many of my WYCD friends that I talked with for over 15 years and put on the radio and played that special song to make a moment in time memorable and special! We shared about a lot of things......that's for sure!! But "change" seems to be the operative word these days........and I pray that everyone of you who touched my life for so many years is doing ok. I think of you so many times a day! I miss you and "our" show a lot!!

Please if you do use facebook..............look me up. It would be nice to to have a conversation with you on our "new" lives in this crazy mixed up world!

oh....and yeah yeah............I still DJ weddings and do the same great bang up job! (have to sell a bit here right!) But seriously, having fun with you is something that won't change no matter what the world throws at us. We will always be better than that!

There are so many scams going on and it breaks my heart that it's happening at
wedding receptions too! Please be so careful when you hire your DJ............there are millions who say they are DJ's and all they've done is purchased a sound system and lights. You can't become an excellent wedding reception DJ overnight.............it takes years of experience.

I've been DJing wedding receptions for as long as I've been a radio personality. Over 20 years.

My prices are way lower than they used to be..............of course! We are all accomodating today aren't we to get a job? Nothing is the way it used to be...........but so you know, I still do the same excellent job for you..........always 100% and then some!

You are going to want someone you can count on to deliver great sound, a music mix that appeals to EVERYONE, a fair price, dependability and a track record for amazing wedding receptions for many. Experience is KEY!! I could have made a lot of money throughout the years hiring young kids to DJ my wedding receptions and paid them $150.00 a night. WOW! I could be rich by now!

HOWEVER..........
I would never send anyone else out to represent Jyl Forsyth's DJ Service. You will always get me as your host for the entire evening.

Their friends and family said they would be checking my blog so here I am. Plus, I wanted to personally say that Tina and Zachs's wedding reception was in the TOP 5 of all the wedding's I've had the honor do DJ the past 28 years.

It's way more than the food that makes for a great party. Of course, the dinner at The Whitney was spectacular.....but it's the people who came to celebrate the love of this amazing couple.

The dance floor was completely full from the second dinner was finished until the lights went on at 12:30am. We played music from the 60's on up....and blended it in such a way that everyone was happy and knew their type of favorite dance music would be in the mix.

That is the secret........that is what takes years to master......"the music"...

Driving home after a successful wedding reception is like no other feeling. Watching people who I got to know so well while planning their special night and then watching the magic unfold from the minute the guests arrive until the very end.....is just an amazing feeling.

I work so hard to make sure everything is perfect for my bride and groom. It just means the world to me that they and their guests will smile and talk about this night for the rest of their lives!

May 9, 2009.... TINA AND ZACH........I love you both. You are such beautiful people inside and out, and your family and friends equally so.

It's so nice being outside with good people, delicious food and listening to great music!

I'm getting ready to take the dogs out one last time...hoping the raccoon is gone. My 2 girls went after him today underneath our deck. It's the 2nd one now that has been totally destroyed getting them outta there! They are so tiny....the raccoon so big......and they have no fear! They were up in his face for the longest time. I could have killed them (my dogs)..for scaring me like that. Yorkies are tunnel hunters........they squiggle under that deck and I have NO idea how they do it. But we have to figure out a way to keep them out once and for all. So far, nothing we've done has worked.

Going to be DJing a wedding reception tomorrow night at the Whitney. I absolutely love this couple. HI TINA AND ZACH!! We met them at
a hockey game and now are DJing their wedding reception. I love meeting people, especially when they turn out to be as fabulous as these two are. Since my radio show went to voice
tracking (which means the show is gone now) in December, I've been meeting so many new people. Then I got sick from being around cats and my life sorta stopped for a few weeks. But I'm on the upswing now.......THANK GOD....and Jyl Forsyth's DJ Service is gonna rock the Whitney big time for Tina and Zach's wonderful wedding reception!

In the past 28 years....except for once, all of the outside events that I've had the great honor to DJ for you, ie: weddings, graduation parties, anniversay celebrations, company parties, have been blessed with SUNSHINE!

It's so quiet. Except for my baby Sophia, she snores big time! I am networking for a radio show out of MI. I don't want to move so it has to be voice tracking or something along those lines. Michigan is my home. It's funny how I always hated winter....until my radio show went to voice tracking...now I never complain about the weather. People who work can't wait for spring, people who got layed off, could care less. It's just nothing to complain about anymore that's for sure.

Phew!! Busy days and I don't even have a radio show right now!!

Seems like there is so much to do since the 7 to 12am air shifts were eliminated across the country. I miss being on the air and doing what I love to do. It's also OK to be in this new place.

So many of us are in a new place and not one we thought we'd ever be in either.

I'm fixing up my rental. Birmingham dollhouse. I love it! Love working on it too. Gives me a sense of accomplishment!

Getting ready to build my www.jylforsyth.com website too, with my demo tape on it.
I'm very excited because now I can do some voicetracking and hopefully some commercials and stay productive and in the radio industry until my non compete is up Dec. 9, 2009.

DJ business kinda slow ...what isn't? I have wedding receptions booked thru 2011 but a lot of them were booked before our great country fell apart.

Hi it's Jyl Forsyth. Radio DJ for 29 years and Wedding reception Dj for 25. I love both of my careers. Both have taken a great deal of time to learn to do really really well. I consider myself a true professonial in both my radio shows and my wedding DJ service business. Now a days, radio shows are being lost to voice tracking. Many shows are now "peopleless" in the studio. The trend of DJ's doing live shows continues to become more extinct every week.

Just like finding a true wedding DJ. With so many people out of work, radio dj's included, they go buy a sound system and are like "oh I can DO a wedding reception!" All you do is play music right?

This Saturday's wedding has a theme. I am very excited. The wedding reception room will be all black and white. It's an all contrast wedding because of the various types of guests they are inviting. I'm under a non-compete contract right now and can't DJ any live shows within 50 miles of Detroit. Michigan is home to me and I'm not leaving. DJing weddings is as much a part of my life as being an on-air talent so I'm letting you know I'm still here. I love being on the air, it's my passion. I'm sure you know the DJ makes the wedding reception. The food can be a 4 star, but if the music is not done 100% accurately......the wedding reception will be a flop.

Radio of course is my other passion and one I will be doing as soon as I find out the details of my non-compete. My position at wycd was eliminated and is now "voice tracked"...that means NO HUMAN BEING is in the studio any longer. The lights went out when DJ Jyl Forsyth left the building....literally.

Nearly 16 years with that station and what a blessing it has been. WOW!! Was it awesome. The world has changed and radio has changed because it had to as well. Many positions have been eliminated across the country which is very sad. Voice trackers make very minimum amounts of money and get no benefits. That is the future for radio DJ's with the exception of morning and afternoon drive pretty much. I talk to my buddies from the station all of the time.

I miss my listeners more than words can say. Thank God my DJ Service keeps us connected and we can still spend a night of dancing and having fun together. I hope to have another "LIVE" show as soon as I hear the word "GO" and I'm free and clear from any contractual obligations.

Whoo-wee! Did this wedding reception in Bloomfield Hills have charm and character.

Both on the dance floor and off. High heels on the dance floor at this wedding reception and snow boots too. The bride and groom even got a snow ball dance going and I mean literally.

All this snow!What a night to remember and I must say, The better the DJ, the completely excellent the wedding reception. It was magic. The photographer got amazing photos of the entire wedding party and all the guests. My assistant who is the BEST wedding DJ assistant in the world.....also a photographer, got shots no one would dare shoot. I'm hoping to get them posted asap.

We have a wedding every Friday and Saturday for the rest of January and I'll be working on preparing those wedding receptions before I get to it. I am however still open to DJ your wedding reception on Valentines Day.

BACK from PANAMA, but unfortunately - NO PICS! We had a camera, but we got caught in a TORRENTIAL downpour for over two hours as we climbed down the side of a mountain in a Panamanian JUNGLE in El Valle de Anton.

It seems that cameras don't like rain. Mine sure didn't. It doesn't take pics anymore, but it sure makes a great doorstop.

I was worried about Jyl falling off the side of the mountain, as it was very steep...so steep that if she did fall, she wouldn't have stopped until she hit bottom.

As it turns out, it was ME that I should have been worried about!

Our guide did not warn us that this particular hike in the mountains would be TOTALLY TREACHEROUS! I wasn't wearing proper hiking shoes, so when the rain started to really come down, I came down the mountainside, mostly on my backside!

They say that "Music soothes the savage beast". Well it seems that COUNTRY MUSIC makes them downright friendly! Here I am at Sweetwaters Game Preserve near the Mt. Kenya Safari Club, with my new friend Moroni the Rhino. Moroni is a word from the Maasai language meaning Warrior. The gentleman behind me is a Park Ranger. He is well armed and can legally shoot poachers, no questions asked! (Hooray for that!)

We were accompanied on our safari vacation by two WONDERFUL traveling buds, Cheryl (behind me), and Kim (behind Cheryl), from the Richmond, Virginia area. They were great to have along as Cheryl is a Zoo Veterinarian and knew almost as much as our professional guides did about the wildlife. And Kim is a Nurse Anesthesiologist, and could share a wealth of medical insights. Looks like we make Moroni "horny" (but they say he's always that way!).

Here's a "little" friend I made at the Sweetwaters Tented Camp where we stayed for two nights, about midway through our safari vacation. I'm sharing my breakfast with a Marabou Stork. While you can't tell it from this photo, this hungry little guy stands just over 4 feet tall! I'm just over 5 feet tall, so as you might guess, I was very generous with my breakfast.

As anyone who has ever listened to me knows, I'm a huge animal lover...so my safari trip was a magical experience for me. I particularly loved the elephants...and saw literally hundreds of them. I think I took pictures of EVERY SINGLE ONE!

Here is a photo I snapped of a mother elephant keeping watch over two babies.

Here's me & Brett visiting with some Samburu tribesmen. The Samburu guys really wanted Brett's shirt...at least SOMEBODY is promoting the radio station! By the way...Brett eventually did give up the shirt. So, if you're walking around Kenya some day, and a big, tall guy carrying a club and wearing a WYCD T-Shirt comes your way, you better start singing some country tunes or you might have to give up your shirt too!

As a price for taking a picture of these lovely Tucana tribeswomen, I had to do a "Wahoo-Whoopee" dance with all the ladies of the village. (Brett thought MY version of the dance looked like a good ole Texas 2-Step).

I called the lady in the center "Boing-Boing" because of the decorative piece on the top of her head...it is actually her hair wound tightly with a wire, ending in a tuft at the top.

Traveling in STYLE in an authentic rikshaw through the Beijing Old Town area. Brett and I were pedaled about the narrow streets of Old Town Beijing, with cars whizzing past us mere inches away. But our driver was very careful and considerate, and even supplied a warm quilt for us on this cold day in Beijing.

In each city we visited, we had our own private guide to the highlights. Here I am with Mei, our Chongqing city guide. This was actually a clear day in Chongqing. The haze you see in the background is smog, primarily from automobile exhaust. China expects to have a 140 million autos on their roads by the year 2020. Currently, there are about 600 million autos in the ENTIRE world, so by 2020, China should account for about 25% of the total vehicles on our planet's roadways. (cough, cough. Hey...how about a few hybrids, China!)

With 3600 years of recorded history, you might imagine that the Chinese people have a rich and varied spiritual background. Everywhere we went, there were statues, wood carvings, and drawings depicting the hundreds of deities from Chinese mythology.

Below is a shot of Brett and I in Fengdu the "Ghost City" on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The ghost city is reputed to be inhabited by angry gods and deities. This fellow we are posing in front of, doesn't seem too happy :(

Just like here at home, late March is Springtime in China. While it was COLD in Beijing, as we worked our way south toward, Chongqing and Shanghai, the days warmed right up. China has an incredible variety of flowering shrubs and trees.

Here I am in front of what I was told is a variety of Peach tree. These were blossoming all over the hillsides as we worked our way toward Shanghai.

China is a land with an artistic heart. The people are very interested in music, dance, drawing and painting. I met the young lady pictured below on the Great Wall. She is practicing an art called nei-wa, or "inside painting". She is actually using tiny paint brushes to paint Chinese landscape scenes INSIDE a tiny glass bottle. You can only imagine the amount of patience this takes, not to mention an extremely steady hand. This girl was a real sweetheart and was so happy to be practicing her art in such a majestic setting.

Below you see a photo I took in the city of Chongqing, which as I mentioned earlier, has a population of 28 million people. Chongqing (pronounced chong-ching) had more of a rural Chinese feel to it. In Beijing, the buildings and streets looked more like Detroit - a much more "down to business" feel. But as we explored the hilly curving avenues and side streets of Chongqing, I sensed that I was entering the true heart of China. If I had to compare it to an American city, I would say that Chongqing was reminiscent of San Francisco - more earthy, and laid back.

The Chinese people seem genuinely happy, and are very curious to learn about Westerners. Brett and I felt very welcome throughout our journey in China, and were amazed that many of the local people spoke excellent English.

The man sitting down you see in the photo below is a "Chicken Vendor". His woven baskets are filled with LIVE chickens. He meanders about the streets calling out "chickens, chickens, chickens for sale" (in Mandarin Chinese of course).

Brett and I traveled to China last March, between the last week of March 2006 and the first week of April 2006. Our general itinerary was to fly into Beijing, spend two days there, then fly to Chongqing to board a 200 passenger cruise ship, and cruise for 4 days down the Yangtze River, all the way to the Three Gorges Dam project. We disembarked from our cruise ship near Shanghai, and spent two days in that marvelous and spectacular city.

You really cannot imagine what a city of 24 million (Beijing) people is like. There is nothing in America that can compare to this. It boggles the mind! 24 million people all in one huge city! And Beijing is not even China's most populous city. Chongqing has 28 million.

As this blog evolves, I will be uploading more photos with brief descriptions. I can't wait to start blogging about my upcoming trip to Kenya, Africa.

I love to make new friends on every trip. Incredibly, there was only one other couple in our tour group; Vicki & Rick from Oklahoma. Vicki and I really hit it off. Here we are in the front of a sampan boat, exploring one of the gorges along the Yangtze river.

Here I am helping our sampan pilot watch out for DRAGONS in the waters of the 3 Gorges.
Actually, Dragons are considered very good luck in China...a symbol of power and wisdom, and an emblem of the emperors of old China.
